if the avs have enough faith that o'reilly can handle 2nd line center duties then by all means trade stastny. he could provide a decent return. but can stastny play wing at all?

Ryan and Stastny have similar stats, however Ryan scores more goals, and has a lower cap hit plus bigger size which makes his value greater than Stastny's, so this trade couldn't be for one on one! however, it is a good basis for a fade as Anaheim desperately wants a 2C and Stastny could be just that, but colorado would need to add something else to this

Pominville was top 20 in scoring last year, Vanek wasn't. just saying.

Vanek's age is the turn off really at 28 and being even more expensive. Stanstny picked up his game in 2012 and during the WC to near a point per game. Not surprisingly that happened after he was given two half way competent wingers that could finish and then played with good players during the tournament.

Colorado is not moving him at the very least until the deadline next season if at all..

Is it so hard to believe that a center who plays a solid two-way game and gets most of his points from plays that he creates would have a couple down years while our winger depth was the worst it has ever been?

Stastny has put up a solid 20G a year or better, his play in every other way has stayed consistent beyond his assist totals.

Ryan? Yes

Vanek? No

Why trade a guy you trust (A Center for that mater) for one you don't? Especially with the question marks involved.

Also on another note.. We are not sure Duchene is ready to take the reigns as the #1 Center.

Btw : Garth needed to go read the blog post on MHH where Dater got this idea. The question was specifically preposed with Ryan involved and there are just about as many votes for keeping Stastny as there are for trading him even specifically involving Ryan.

Not sure why you'd want Ryan over Vanek so badly. Vanek and Ryan are about equivalent in terms of goal scoring if thats what you need. Vanek needs to get out of BUF badly. Ryan has played with Perry and Getzlaf and Selanne to help him achieve those 30 goal seasons. Vanek has never played with players of that caliber over the past 5 seasons, yet hes put up 30+ in 3 of the 5 seasons including a 40 goal season.

I agree on Stastny. His stats have been down in year that the team overall has been down. Same reason Buffalo players have had declining stats since Drury and Briere left.

I would be disgusted if we traded Vanek for anything short of Nash. I would hate vanek for Stastny.

I absolutely love how people are saying they wouldn't trade stastny for Vanek but they'd sell the farm for Rick Nash despite the fact that Vanek is cheaper, has five less years and on average has put up the exact same numbers as Nash.

The trade is extremely pointless, the Sabres want a number one center to play with Vanek, it makes very little sense to give him up for a guy that most people would consider a number two center...

No, but I think Vanek is the most overhyped player in the league. Sorry. Just an opinion. He is making a boat load of money and his production has decreased. Again, just my opinion.
